About The Candidate

A Third Generation Huntsvillian

David Little was born and raised in District 2, attended Blossomwood, Huntsville Middle and Huntsville High School, and has a sincere passion for our community. After High School, David joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country proudly. He later attended Calhoun Community College and Athens State University where he graduated in 1997. He is married to the former Mimi Sowder, also a Huntsville native. They have three adult children: Caroline, married to Skyler Hanson and mother to their daughter Mae; law student Layne; and Grey who studies commercial music and sound engineering at Calhoun Community College.

In 2008, David’s life, and the lives of his family, changed forever when a distracted driver collided with his car. David spent weeks in the hospital recuperating. Over the years, David has spoken to local groups about the dangers of distracted driving. He advocated for strong state laws and passed a Hands-Free Resolution for the City of Huntsville.

David has a diverse work background, beginning in sales while in college, followed by aerial photography, owned a small business for a while, which led to business development and channel sales for a local computer products manufacturing firm, and has worked in the wealth management and financial planning industry since 2005. David understands the importance of communication and building strong and lasting relationships.

David Little is a natural leader who represents District 2 on the City Council with honor and respect, while guiding Huntsville into the future.

Key 2023–2026 Accomplishments

  • Helped increase and protect funding for road projects so we can keep up with Huntsville’s rapid growth and improve traffic flow across District 2.
  • Supported funding for major upgrades at John Hunt Park, including the new pickleball facility, more space at the IcePlex, and an expansion of the sand volleyball courts.
  • Backed full funding for our police, fire, and emergency services so they have the tools and staffing needed to keep our community safe.
  • Supported expansion and improvement of city recreation facilities across District 2 so more families can enjoy our parks, greenways, and programs.
  • Partnered with Commissioner Craig Hill on longrange planning and joint projects, including the future widening of the Eastern Bypass, a critical improvement likely 5-10 years away but already in the planning stages.
  • Worked to update Huntsville’s texting and driving ordinance to a stronger HandsFree standard, helping make our roads safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Worked with LTNA and city leaders to complete funding and construction of the new greenway on Monte Sano, providing a safer route for bikers and walkers up the mountain.
  • Maintained fast response to citizen concerns about city services, from garbage and drainage to traffic and public safety.
  • Regularly arranged meetings between residents and department heads so issues could be addressed quickly and facetoface.
  • Helped keep residents informed and connected before, during, and after two tornadoes and two winter weather events over the last three years.
  • Supported upgrades at Goldsmith Schiffman Park to improve amenities for families, athletes, and seniors.
  • Worked alongside citizens and city leadership to designate Dallas Mill as a historic neighborhood, helping preserve its character and history.
  • Directed discretionary funds to multiple local nonprofits that serve lowerincome families, provide healthcare, and support people experiencing homelessness, including support for ShowerUp Huntsville and HEALS, Inc.
  • Supported Free to Teach by backing efforts that let educators focus on students while the city does its part on safety and infrastructure.
